Graphic Designer/3D Package Designer
The function of the Graphic Designer is to produce graphic art and visual materials for promotions, advertisements, packaging, and informative and instructional materials. The Graphic Designer will be meeting expectations when they are successful in:
- Developing effective materials that effectively communicate key messages to improve and increase sales
- Supporting the company’s product development efforts.
- Maintaining cohesive messaging and look across all visual materials.
- Supporting the company’s sales efforts through agency personnel and accounts.
Qualifications
- At least 3 to 5 years of experience in graphic print design with an established portfolio demonstrating quality technical and aesthetic work
- Bachelor of Arts degree from a four-year college or university or two years technical school training and experience (equivalent to four years of college)
- Proficiency with MAC OS systems and Adobe Suite (Photoshop, In Design, Illustrator, Acrobat)
- Basic common knowledge of composition, layout, hierarchy, patterns
- Knowledge of color theory, typography (line-height and tracking)
- Working knowledge of the printing process and technologies, preparing files for print, creating dyelines for packaging
- Basic knowledge of photography and lighting methods
- Ability to maintain integrity of artwork, understanding of copyright, creative commons, etc.
- Strong communication and organizational skills with an acute attention to detail
- Ability to plan and organize day/week around multiple productive activities
- A true team player with the ability to work under tight deadlines
- Ability to achieve results through the management of others
- A good understanding of designing effective graphics for web sites
Reporting Relationship
The Marketing Team is comprised of the Marketing Coordinator, Graphic Designer, Marketing Manager, and Marketing Director.
- The Graphic Designer reports to the Marketing Director.
- The Marketing Coordinator reports to the Marketing Director.
- The Marketing Manager reports to the Marketing Director and CEO.
- The Marketing Director reports to the CEO.
Authorities
The following are principal authorities granted to the Graphic Designer:
- Exercise the responsibilities and perform the duties of this position. This includes full decision-making authority for all responsibilities and duties.
- Employ consultants and other outside resources to accomplish departmental goals within approved budgeted amounts.
Supervisory Responsibilities
There are no supervisory responsibilities for the Graphic Designer
Principal Duties
The following are principal duties of the Graphic Designer:
Design all sales, advertising and retail support materials:
- Support internal and external sales force to develop any required materials to effectively communicate product offerings. This includes: product sales sheets, pricing lists, POP displays, and other assigned projects.
- Work with outside agencies to design and update all product catalogs when required
- Work with outside agencies to design tradeshow materials
- Work with Sales and Marketing Teams to conceptualize and present new POP displays to promote new products
- Coordinate with approved vendors to print and approve all materials. This includes performing on-site press checks to ensure quality results
Develop all sales presentation materials:
- Work with Sales Team to create effective sales presentations using print, PowerPoint, and other effective materials
Design all product packaging:
- Design blister packages and work with Project Manager to obtain samples within established deadlines
- Work with Technical Department, Sales Department, and Marketing Team to help write copy for insert card and have copy translated by approved vendors. Review the results for quality and coordinate with design
- Use existing graphic templates, which comply with established package design criteria, to design packages
- Use creative talents develop new templates that help improve product and brand identity
- Work with outside agencies to obtain illustrations, photography, UPC codes or other elements required to complete package design
- Coordinate with all departments for final approval and sign-off to ensure quality of final packaging
- Release final package to vendor
- Work with vendor to approve and ensure quality results prior to release to market
Maintain / Update all company and product support web site graphics
- Work with IT department and outside agencies to update and maintain all web site graphics
- Use the latest technology when necessary to maintain an updated and fresh look to web sites
Measures of Performance
The following will be used to evaluate the performance of the Graphic Designer:
- Use creative talents to continually challenge and improve brand identity
- Ability to effectively modify designs based on feedback and both give and take direction
- Meet design targets for new products brought to market
- Complete new product development assignments within established deadlines (based on information provided by New Product Development tracking database)
- Act as a team player across all departments
